What is Abdominal Massage and How Does It Work?
Abdominal massage is a gentle and relaxing treatment that’s used to help with a wide number of health concerns, including digestive issues, constipation, bloating, and menstrual cramping.
Abdominal massage offers many of the same benefits as other massage therapy techniques, which can positively affect your physical and emotional health, and enhance your overall well-being. Abdominal massage can be used to help to calm your nervous system, decrease pain, increase circulation to your organs, help release pelvic adhesions, improve your digestion, and enhance the quality of your sleep.
A session of abdominal massage works to relax your stomach muscles, which can help relieve constipation and stimulate your digestion. It also helps promote better circulation to your internal organs, which may translate into better bowel motility and benefits to your reproductive health. In fact, a research study found women who had a short abdominal massage on the six days before menstruation reported significantly lower levels of menstrual cramping compared to women who didn’t have massage.
What’s Involved?
Since each patient’s situation is unique, we work with you to develop a plan that’s tailored to your specific needs. Various healing methods may be incorporated into your sessions. This may include:
- Gentle Swedish massage
- Fascial release
- A soothing castor oil pack applied to your abdomen
- Rebozo wraps
- Craniosacral therapy
- Visceral manipulation
- Relaxing aromatherapy, using essential oils
Abdominal massage is safe, even during pregnancy. Our experienced massage therapists have the education and years of experience to assess which positions and techniques should or should not be used throughout your menstrual cycle, fertility status, or stage of pregnancy.
At BodaHealth, we offer a number of other healing tools to treat a wide variety of conditions. This includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, and osteopathic medicine. One area of special interest at BodaHealth is in women’s health, including fertility, pregnancy, menopause, and other reproductive health concerns.
Because acupuncture and massage therapy work together beautifully to optimize your health, you may want to combine the two. Depending on our recommendations, your preferences, and your schedule, you can receive both during the same visit, or you can separate the treatments into separate visits. Your acupuncturist may focus on acupressure points on a pathway called the Conception Vessel, a pathway which is frequently treated in acupuncture to enhance energy, promote fertility, and improve reproductive health.
At BodaHealth, we’re passionate about helping our patients by providing an array of healing tools to treat the widest variety of health conditions possible. We’re proud to offer abdominal massage as a safe, natural, and effective treatment to promote the health and well-being of our patients.
