Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates is an exercise that strengthens your muscles while aligning your posture and improving your flexibility. Pilates exercises target your core muscles, which encompass your deep abdominal muscles, as well as the muscles that support your spine. A benefit of Pilates is that while it emphasizes core strength, it also works your entire body. Each session emphasizes proper breathing and correct alignment of your spine and pelvis through flowing movements, with the ultimate goal of strengthening your muscles for better flexibility, joint mobility, and range of motion.
A Clinical Pilates session includes exercises that can work one or several muscle groups at once. Many of the exercises are performed in sitting or reclining positions, and most are low impact and partially weight bearing. The movements are controlled, smooth, and continuous. In addition to strengthening, Pilates exercises help you develop proper patterns of movement that can help with recovery from injuries, enhance sports performance, and promote good posture.
Therapeutic Exercise
Muscular injuries and postural imbalances can come from a variety of events, such as trauma, sports injuries, muscle strength discrepancies, surgery, and illness. In order to restore function and maintain your health, these musculoskeletal issues need to be resolved. At BodaHealth, our therapeutic exercise therapists work with you to address these conditions and imbalances. It’s our philosophy that if you only improve the symptoms, but don’t correct the underlying imbalance, over time those symptoms will return.
At BodaHealth, therapeutic exercise sessions are performed one on one, with exercises that are prescribed for you to do both in the treatment session and at home. At your first session, much like a physiotherapy session, your therapist will take a history of your overall health and current symptoms. They will also perform functional assessments to evaluate your specific needs. Your therapist will then work with you to develop a treatment program of exercises and movements that are designed to address your condition and promote healing. As you progress, your treatment exercises will change or become more challenging to help you heal and gain strength, with the ultimate goal of this type of physical therapy being to fully restoring movement, function, and flexibility.
